Directions away from Stovepipe Wells:
While Stovepipe Wells is indeed a central location, the greater Death Valley park is huge. Gasoline is a premium out there, and your two choices are Stovepipe Wells or Furnace Creek. Some typical distances & drive times from SPW to anywhere:
- Furnace Creek Ranger Station: 25 miles, 0:30 hrs
- Badwater: 42 miles, 1:00 hrs
- Wildrose Charcoal kilns: 38 miles, 1:15+ hrs
- Darwin Canyon: 34 miles, 1:00+ hrs
- Ubehebe Crater: 46 miles, 1:30 hrs
- The Racetrack: 74 miles, 5:30 hrs. The last 28 miles from Ubehebe are on rough washboard road with a maximum speed of _maybe_ 7mph in a 4x4 with tires pressured down. This is one of the nastiest washboard roads in the park.
